How we got these numbers

Every number on this page is computed from facts that Journeyed read on hotels' own websites, within each site's robots.txt, between October 2, 2026 and October 3, 2026. Nothing comes from booking sites, review sites or guest reports.

The Los Angeles market on this site covers Los Angeles County and most of Orange County, from Malibu and Lancaster to Anaheim, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, plus Avalon on Catalina Island. It has 2,612 hotels, motels, inns and hostels. 2,227 of them list their own website, and we have read at least one detail about the stay from 453 of those websites so far. A website our crawler opened but found no such detail on is not among the 453, so a share of "websites with a detail read" is higher than the share of all hotel websites would be.

A hotel is counted only when its website states the fact in plain text. Our crawler reads up to 12 pages per site and runs no JavaScript, so a fee that appears only inside a booking widget, an image or a PDF is not counted. A hotel that is not counted may still offer or charge the thing; it has not said so in a form we could read.

Shares are of the hotels that state the fact, never of all hotels, and each share shows its count. Hotels with good news, such as free parking or no resort fee, may be more likely to say so, which would make these shares look better than the whole market.

Values are read by software and can be wrong. Before publishing, a person re-read the highest and lowest values against the hotel's page. Hotels are named in a table of highest stated prices only when that exact value was re-read by hand. Every row in the CSV links to the page it was read from, so anyone can check it.

A median is shown only with at least 5 stated prices and an area only with at least 5 hotels stating the fact. The numbers are rebuilt with the site by published, deterministic code: the same fact rows always give the same numbers.

How facts are collected and scored in general is on the methodology page, and the full open dataset is on the data page.
